KISSIMMEE & THE DISNEY AREA

There's non-stop action within reach in Kissimmee. Above, a chariot race at Arabian Knights Dinner Theater.
Named after a Caloosa Indian word meaning "Heaven's Place", Kissimmee started life as Allendale after the Civil War, but the name was changed by a developer who bought four million acres of land in Osceola County in 1881. When the railroad arri ved in 1882, Kissimmee became the center of commerce for Central Florida. Its sister city, St.Cloud, wasn't settled until 1909. Many of the original houses still stand today.

Encircled by the world's most popular theme parks, Kissimmee-St.Cloud is the ideal location for proximity to Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld, Busch Gardens. Also close by are the Kennedy Space Center, Silver Springs with its glass bottom boat tours and Disney-MGM Studios. For water thrills there's Water Mania and Wet 'n Wild. New attractions nearby are Titanic, Ship of Dreams, a large scale reproduction of parts of the ship. There are several nighttime attractions in the Kissimmee area, such as Arabian Nights Dinner Theater, Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament and Wild Bill's Wild West Dinner Show Extravaganza. Kissimmee-St Cloud also offers quaint historic districts lined with shops and restaurants that are ideal for walking tours. There's so much to see and do that you'll be hard pressed to take it all in. Click here for a complete listing of Orlando area attractions.
